City reports climb in rat complaints
The city's rat complaint hotline is on pace to receive more calls than ever before, according to officials.
There have already been more than 24,000 complaints filed in each of the last two years.
Residents say they haven't seen much of a response to their complaints, but the city has proposed a $3 million plan to reduce rat populations in some of the worst areas.
The city has even set up a website to help track the rat problem.
An audit by Comptroller Scott Stringer's office found that the Department of Health was slow to respond to about 24 percent of rat complaints.
Officials say that just because there are more complaints than usual does not mean that there are more rats.
The Department of Health did not immediately respond to a News 12 request for comment.
