Clarkstown Democrats are taking aim at Supervisor George Hoehmann, blaming him for costing the town $1 million.
Jeffrey Greenburg is running against Hoehmann for town supervisor in November.
In a news conference Tuesday, the Democrat attacked Hoehmann on his recent loss of a federal lawsuit by a former Clarkstown police sergeant.
Stephen Cole-Hatchard won a $1 million lawsuit against the town and supervisor, accusing them of retaliation and being forced to resign for looking into contributions to Hoehmann's political campaign.
Court documents alleged Hoehmann spied on police officers, spied on town employees, and spied on private citizens while putting his own ambition and personal protections above the greater interest of citizens.
The town of Clarkstown tells News 12, "Following the jury's verdict, the town's insurer reached a settlement with Cole-Hatchard rather than pursue an appeal. While the town vigorously denies the allegations made by the plaintiff, this settlement resolved the litigation between the plaintiff and the Town. The insurance settlement was conditioned upon no admission of fault by either party."
