Lorraine Franqui says the smell coming from a construction site at the intersection of White Plains Road and O'Brien Avenue is similar to a latrine or a port-a-potty, "just multiply that by say, 100."

Clason Point residents say they've had enough of a smell that is disturbing their quality of life and affecting their health.
Lorraine Franqui says the smell coming from a construction site at the intersection of White Plains Road and O'Brien Avenue is similar to a latrine or a port-a-potty, "just multiply that by say, 100."
The construction originally brought excitement, because it was to create a new sewer line. But now, neighbors say the smell coming from it stings their eyes and makes it hard to breathe.
While the biggest complaints stem from the smell, there are other issues. The site has also brought a river of sewage and a dangerous square hole that people are able to walk right by.
Safety inspectors showed up at the site Wednesday and asked News 12 to leave. Later, News 12 spoke to the Department of Design and Construction about the safety of the area. A spokesperson responded saying, "We do establish a perimeter around our work zones which can include barricades, fences, barrels or caution tape. However, it may be possible for someone to breach that perimeter if they choose to do so. We're going to increase inspections in that area to be sure the perimeter is being maintained."
Later on, construction workers were seen adding fences to the exterior.
