Closing arguments heard in NaSean Bonie murder trial
Closing arguments were delivered Thursday in the case of a landlord accused in the 2012 murder of his tenant in the Bronx.
Nasean Bonie is charged with killing his former tenant, Ramona Moore.
Patricia Evans, Bonie's mother, sat quietly in court Thursday as both the defense and the prosecution presented their closing arguments.
Bonie's lawyer questioned the credibility of dozens of witnesses who took the stand during the trial, saying the prosecution did not meet its burden of proof to convict.
The main witness, neighbor Betsy Gonzalez, testified in court that she saw Bonie carry 10 to 15 black plastic bags the day Moore disappeared. She said she saw Moore and Bonie on the porch arguing over rent on July 31, 2012, and that she heard glass shattering inside the victim's home once police left the scene.
Gonzalez said that was the last time she saw Moore and claims Bonie has threatened to kill her on two separate occasions.
However, during cross-examination, the defense alluded that Gonzalez has called the police on multiple people who she claims have threatened her in the past.
Moore's body was found in Orange County three years after her death.
Bonie is charged with murder and manslaughter.
A jury may deliver a verdict over the next few days.
