Closure of New York Fashion Braces dental office leaves patients, staff filing complaints
A Bronx orthodontics office that suddenly closed in August has left patients and staffers threatening legal action.
Two locations of New York Fashion Braces dental office closed their doors without warning after owner and chief dentist Harold Edward died earlier this year.
Patient Maria Cruz was ready to get her braces off on Aug. 18, but was greeted by a sign on the door at the office on East Fordham Road. The sign alerted patients that the owner had died and provided an office number for patients to call. She says her calls have gone unanswered, forcing Cruz to find another doctor to remove her braces.
Cruz is just one of 4,000 patients who were left in limbo after the offices closed. Since then, patients and members of the staff, who say they were not paid for their last week of work, have been urged to file a complaint against the business with the attorney general's office.
The attorney general's office says it cannot comment on potential investigations. State Sen. Adriano Espaillat told News 12 he is "committed to helping those affected, and is determined to hold those behind it accountable."
