Neighbors held their 3rd annual Peace Walk through Olinville Thursday night to show they're fed up with violent crime.
A crowd of nearly 100 chanted "guns down, lives up" as they walked down city streets starting at Astor and Walace avenues, passing White Plains Road and East 229th Street. The community stopped near Allerton and Cruger avenues, where a 28-year-old was shot three times Tuesday afternoon.
A Jacobi Medical Center spokesperson says they treat about 470 victims of violence every year.
Sen. Jeff Klein’s office presented a check to keep programs like the Peace Walk running.
Marchers called for more community involvement to disrupt areas with concentrated amounts of violence.
