Households in the borough and across the city are without power due to the extreme temperatures.

Residents say they were trying to get ready for work with no lights and no air conditioning Monday.

Con Edison says there were 81,000 outages in the Bronx alone and have confirmed that at least some of those outages are because of extreme weather-related issues. The company says 36 customers on Virgil Place between Olmstead and Pugsley avenues in Castle Hill experienced outages due to the almost triple-digit heat and rain.
Thousands of outages also affected parts of Brooklyn and Queens.

Con Edison is asking customers across the borough in affected neighborhoods from City Island to Parkchester and Pelham Bay to conserve energy. They say are asking people not to use washers, dryers or microwaves and to even keep air conditioners off unless they're needed for medical reasons. They say they've also reduced voltage by 8 percent in those areas as a precaution.

Con Edison says it does estimate that most of the outages will be restored Monday morning.
