Congregation without a pastor finds one for Palm Sunday
Two congregations -- one without a pastor -- came together at a Bronx church to mark Palm Sunday.
Holding palm leaves and crosses, the congregants from Fordham Evangelical Lutheran Church and St. James' Episcopal Church gathered near 188th Street and Fordham Road. The group read scripture and blessed the palms.
Police officers also joined the group in the street.
St. James' Episcopal Church doesn't have a pastor right now, but its members were welcomed with open arms.
"We have two different denominations in interreligious dialogue in communion with one another celebrating the most important festival event in the church calendar: the life, death and resurrection of Christ," said Jonathan Recabarren, who is the pastor of Fordham Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Sunday marked the start of Holy Week; Easter is March 27.
