A new affordable housing project in Williamsbridge received some much-needed funding Thursday.
Councilman Andy King announced he will fund $2 million to transform 839 Tilden St. into the Sydney Houses. King already put $800,000 in to the property several years ago.
The 57-unit multifamily building is set to become the largest development ever built by a Habitat for Humanity affiliate.
Habitat for Humanity and the Almat Group, which is developing the site, tell News 12 that the building will have one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. The building will also have a community room, garden, green roof and parking lot.
Families will pay a 1 percent down payment and a low fixed-interest rate mortgage.
The project is expected to begin within the next 90 days, and it is estimated to be completed by fall or winter of 2019.
