Department of Environmental Protection crews are working to repair a broken fire hydrant that has been gushing water for weeks.

Shortly after News 12 got involved, the city promised to have the hydrant repaired at Randall and Calhoun avenues in Throgs Neck.

As previously reported, water was gushing out of the hydrant and a nearby sewer, creating a mess with garbage getting trapped in it. Neighbors worried about high water bills and low water pressure, and said that repeated calls to 311 went unanswered. 

The DEP says the water flow was due to a broken valve in the hydrant. The agency expects the repairs to take most of the day.
