The Crown Heights community stood together to denounce gun violence after a shooting incident that left two teens injured.
Police say it happened Wednesday after 9:30 a.m. in front of 821 Franklin Ave.
A 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl were injured.
Police say this all stemmed from an argument when that 17-year-old boy was approached by two people then was slapped in the face.
When the boy tried to get away, the gunfire rang out.
It was a very emotional community response as many called for change and resources to prevent gun violence.
"Why? Are you even thinking about your choices? Clearly not. If you have a weapon that kills and destroys lives and you're just able to feel that it’s ok to do that in broad daylight first thing in the morning?" said Trenelle Gabay, of the Caray Gabay Foundation.
The Foundation, along with a host of anti-gun violence groups and clergy groups, banded together in the middle of the street to send a powerful message to the community.
The rally that blocked off the bustling street just footsteps from the scene on the corner of Franklin Avenue and Eastern Parkway.
Public advocate Jumaane Williams said change is needed.
"We have been pushing over and over for the resources that are needed to help these kids make better decisions and better choices," Williams said .
The victims are recovering at NYC Health and Hospitals Kings County.
Police are anyone who may have information about the shooting to give them a call.
