CUNY Fatherhood Academy reaches the Bronx
A CUNY program supporting young fathers has reached the Bronx.
Roberto Ramos, 25, drops his son off at day camp and heads straight to class at Hostos Community College.
He was the only child out of three in his household who graduated high school, and the CUNY Fatherhood Academy is giving him an opportunity to advance his education.
The program began in 2012, but just recently arrived at Hostos. Its first class of 15 graduated in May.
Officials say the hardships some of the participants face in their daily lives translate into good work ethic in school.
The Fatherhood Academy is now accepting applications for its next class.
