Gov. Andrew Cuomo returned to New York Friday after heading to Puerto Rico to survey the destruction left by Hurricane Maria.
Cuomo headed to the island territory earlier in the day after Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rossello asked for New York's assistance with relief efforts.
New York responded by sending drinking water, ready-to-eat meals and electric generators.
The two governors met Friday afternoon and got a bird's-eye view of Maria's wrath.
Puerto Rico is expected to be without electricity for many weeks to come due to major power outages, and a dam failure was imminent in Guajataca Lake. Police were scrambling to get those nearby to safety Friday afternoon.
New York plans to send about 240 National Guard members and state troopers to assist Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
