Deacon: Raw chicken dumped outside church
Church members and neighbors in the Hub are complaining over a mysterious pile of raw chicken that has appeared outside the Seventh-Day Adventist Church on the corner of Willis Avenue and East 147th Street.
The city's Sanitation Department has fined the church for years over various piles of trash dumped on its grounds, but the deacon there says he doesn't know where the trash is coming from or how to make it stop. And the raw chicken is the most disgusting waste item found on the lot to date, church members and neighbors say.
"We've been getting tickets for a very long time," he says. "So we are paying tickets for other people."
The church says its outside property has become a popular dumping ground, and because the trash is piled up on its property, the DSNY has fined it thousands of dollars over the past three years.
