Department of Transportation reaches milestone in clean truck program
The New York Department of Transportation today announced a major milestone in Port Morris and Hunts Point on an initiative to reduce harmful diesel emissions across the city.
The DOT's clean truck program now has 500 green trucks traveling on the roads and highways of the Bronx.
The program, launched in 2003, encourages local delivery and distributing companies to switch their trucks to more environmentally friendly ones.
One truck operator in Hunts Point says it has helped his company roll out a cleaner and less pollutant fleet of vehicles.
The DOT says the program's goal is to reduce all greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent across the city by 2050.
It also hopes to become the largest city in the country with the cleanest air.
