Bronx Borough president Ruben Diaz Jr. addressed local leaders, advocates and Bronx residents for his ninth State of the Borough address on Thursday.

During his address, Diaz talked about this past year and changes for the upcoming year.

Diaz says $20 million was allocated this year for technology for Bronx schools. He also said that students are still dealing with overcrowding. Diaz says he asked for the city’s Department of Education to limit class sizes to 22 students in middle school classrooms.

The borough president also focused on quality of life issues plaguing the New York City Housing Authority, such as heating – and addressed topics on crime and the borough’s unemployment rate.

Overall, Diaz says the Bronx continues to thrive.

“Look at how different things are in this borough today than just a decade ago,” says Diaz. “We have set the bar for the entire nation on transformative urban and redevelopment.”
