A dog that was found wrapped in a garbage bag with his mouth taped shut in a Brooklyn park is now on the road to recovery at a Long Island home.
St. Vincent, a 12-year-old Leonberger, is described by his rescuers as kind, gentle and loyal.
Late last week, St. Vincent was moved from a Brooklyn animal hospital to the Terryville home of Craig Fields, the founder of Long Island dog rescue group New York Bully Crew.
"It's really heartbreaking that somebody did this to him. He's just so gentle and sweet," said Fields.
It is believed that St. Vincent had been in the garbage bag with his mouth taped for several days. He was found on Dec. 19 and was suffering from pneumonia.
Rescuers say the dog is making good progress but still has a ways to go physically. The next part of his rehabilitation will include massage therapy and acupuncture.
St. Vincent might be able to be adopted sometime in the next month.
Police are still trying to identify the person who dumped the dog. The New York Bully Crew is offering an $8,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in the case.
