A new left turn signal will be installed in Riverdale in an effort to keep commuters safe.
Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz announced that the Department of Transportation will be installing a left turn signal on the corner of 231st Street and Riverdale Avenue. He says he felt that the intersection would be much safer for drivers and pedestrians with the change.
It's all in an effort to create zero fatalities with Mayor Bill de Blasio's Vision Zero program. With the new turn signal, drivers will have the opportunity to cross the busy intersection without worrying about hitting other cars going straight or pedestrians crossing the road. It also reduces congestion during the weekdays when the road is heavily traveled.
Dinowitz says keeping his constituents safe is a top priority.
It is unclear right now when the turn signal will be installed but it has been confirmed by the DOT that it will go into effect soon.
