An organization is giving a helping hand to the family of a fallen hero.
Lt. Christopher Raguso was of one of two FDNY firefighters killed in a helicopter crash Thursday while serving with the Air National Guard in Iraq. The crash killed a total of seven U.S. service members.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation announced Sunday that it will donate $100,000 to kick-start a public fundraising campaign to pay off Raguso’s mortgage for his family.
“We need New Yorkers and the rest of Americans to step up to the plate like Chris did,” said John Hodge, of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
The foundation is asking for the public to donate and help pay off the rest of the family’s mortgage.
“Our department can’t take away the pain of loss, but we can help the family move forward financially and every way possible,” said FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro.
The family says they are grateful for the show of support at Raguso’s former firehouse in Flatbush.
