A drug abuse prevention program at the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club in Soundview celebrated its ribbon-cutting Monday with the help of two former NFL players.
Former Giants players Justin Tuck and Antonio Pierce joined the Brent Shapiro Foundation in cutting the ribbon to "Brent's Club," a program designed to prevent drug abuse, promote academic success and build healthy lifestyles.
Tuck and Antonio spent the day with kids from the club, running through some football drills and teaching life skills.
The founders of the program tell News 12 that they started their initiative after they lost their son to an incident involving drugs. They say they hope kids will learn to stay clear of substance abuse after hearing their story.
“Our concept is to change peer pressure to say it's really cool not to try drugs,” says Robert Shapiro, co-founder of the Brent Shapiro Foundation.
The Giants organization presented $100,000 to the club in support of its efforts.
