The families of two teenage girls who were born prematurely reunited on Wednesday.

Skye Smith Saunders and Tarin Blanding were born less than a month apart, both weighing less than 3 pounds. They spent months side by side fighting for their lives.

"I really never knew that me and her were neighbors and stuff when we were babies," Blanding says. "Just knowing the fact that I had a friend since I was born is just kind of amazing."

The girls and their families stayed in touch for years and reunited on Wednesday. The families say it was fate that brought them together.

Now successful high schoolers, the girls hang out regularly.

"We went to the mall, Palisades, Dave and Busters," Smith Saunders says, "It was pretty cool...we ate a lot of gummy bears that day."

Smith Saunders is interested in pursuing a career in criminal justice after graduating high school. Blanding, who's a singer, says she wants to be on Broadway.
