Kids in Clason Point were treated to a fun-filled celebration to mark Three Kings Day on Sunday, and it was all thanks to the NYPD and members of the Latin community.
There was music, food and games for all who attended the event at the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club Gym.
Hundreds of kids, families and police officers came together to celebrate the day, which marks the 12th day of Christmas. The holiday holds special importace in the Latin community. It celebrates the three wise men paying homage to Baby Jesus.
Organized by the NYPD Bronx Community Affairs and the New York Dominican Officers Association, the event included free pizza, face-painting and games. Kids got to learn about the holiday while they took pictures with superheroes and even received presents.
Each child who attended was handpicked by officers because of hardships they face, such as living in a shelter or being the victim of domestic violence.
It marks the first Three Kings Day event that the groups have put on, but organizers say they plan to make it an annual tradition.
