Online sports betting company FanDuel will pay out several disputed bets made on Sunday's Denver Broncos-Oakland Raiders game after the company's system mistakenly generated 750-1 odds during the final moments of the game.
News 12 New Jersey spoke to several bettors who say that they won thousands of dollars when they made bets during Sunday’s game.
Newark resident Anthony Price made his bet at the FanDuel Sportsbook lounge at the Meadowlands Race Track. His betting slip showed that he won more than $82,000 on the bet. But he says that FanDuel initially refused to pay out the full amount due to a glitch.
That’s when Prince reached out to News 12.
“We got in touch with Chris [Keating] from News 12 and it went from there,” Prince says.
Several other bettors told News 12 that their winnings showed up on their FanDuel app, but soon disappeared.
FanDuel initially said that the company was not obligated to pay for obvious errors.
But the company changed its mind Thursday, saying in a statement, “Above all else, sports betting is supposed to be fun. As a result of a pricing error this weekend, it wasn’t for some of our customers… We have clear house rules about how such obvious pricing errors are treated, which is to pay winners at the correct price.”
The statement continued, “For those familiar with the industry these rules are understood, but we realize a lot of our customers are new to sports betting and were not familiar. We want FanDuel to be a sportsbook for all bettors, and we want sports betting to be fun.”
Prince says that he was initially offered $500 and suites at MetLife Stadium to watch some Giants games. But he says that his holdout paid off.
When asked how he will spend the money, Prince says, “Mainly make sure my kids are alright. Get them school funds, pay the bills and whatever is left we might go somewhere.”
Prince says that he will have no issue with placing more bet with FanDuel.
“I'll bet there again no problem…You want to see me I’ll be there Saturday and Sunday; College Day, you know? Big day,” he says.
Prince will be meeting with FanDuel representative Friday to work out the agreement to get him his money.
New Jersey gambling regulators promised to investigate the situation that caused the glitch.
