FanDuel announced Thursday that it would compensate bettors for the drastically erroneous payouts it made during an NFL game last Sunday.
"I'm very pleased with the relationship,” says Meadowlands CEO Jeff Gural. “I think they stepped up and did the right thing.”
The erroneous payouts happened during Sunday's Denver Broncos-Oakland Raiders game after the company's system mistakenly generated 750-1 odds during the final moments of the game, with one bettor winning over $80,000.
As News 12 previously reported, Newark resident Anthony Prince believed he had won $82,000 on a bet he made during the Raiders-Broncos game during an 18-second period, when the company's computer malfunctioned and the wrong odds were posted.
Prince placed a $110 bet on the Broncos field goal kicker to win the game at 750-1 odds. The chances of making the 36-yard field goal were over 80 percent.
FanDuel says the odds should have been 1-6 meaning, gamblers would have to bet $600 to win just $100.
The company initially refused to pay, saying it is not obligated to pay for obvious errors. But after making headlines all over the country, a swift decision was made.
Prince tells News 12 that the win does not feel real yet.
There were other winners involved as well, and the company says it will pay them all, not only because gambling is supposed to be fun, but also because it realizes a lot of its customers are new to sports betting and were not familiar.
"They honored everything. I'll bet there again. No problem. Actually, I am going to bet there. If you want to see me, I'll be there Saturday and Sunday, college day, you know, big day." says Prince.
New Jersey gambling regulators promised to investigate the issue.
