Dozens of men and women took the next step in their careers with promotions within the FDNY.
The ceremony took place at the Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn for 46 people who can now call themselves paramedics with the FDNY.
The promotions didn't come easy though. It took nine months of schools for participants to be given the important role that often plays a big part in life or death for those they respond to.
Three fire department members were also recognized for their service within the U.S. military.
