A Bronx woman created Female Fight Club last year as a safe space for women to workout during the pandemic.
When gyms shut down during the pandemic, many Bronx residents had nowhere to turn to. Around the same time, Riverdale resident Joanna Edmondson founded her outdoor fitness club.
With social distancing and fresh air in mind, Edmondson started offering free workout classes out of Van Cortland park six days a week.
From body sculpting to Zumba to cardio and abs, her fitness classes now attract members from all over the tri- state area.
What started out as just a handful of people is now more than 700 women strong, and group members say they get more than just a workout.
The nonprofit now works with organizations like Susan G. Komen and Love Justice.
