Former NYPD Officer Peter Liang convicted of manslaughter in shooting death of Akai Gurley
Former New York City Police Officer Peter Liang has been convicted in the manslaughter case of an East New York man.
A jury found the former officer guilty Thursday in the 2014 shooting death of Akai Gurley inside a stairwell of the Pink Houses.
Liang and his partner were on a vertical patrol at the houses when defendants say Liang accidently fired his gun, striking Gurley.
Prosecutors say Liang acted recklessly when he fired his service weapon.
He is due back in court in April. Liang could face up to 15 years in prison.
