Kids at Mullaly Park were treated to healthy meals by a former Yankees player on Tuesday.
Former Yankees pitcher Mike Torrez served up sandwiches at Mullaly Park pool as part of the city's free summer meals program that gives out thousands of breakfast and lunches to kids around the city.
From June to September, the Department of Education provides healthy meal options for kids under 18.
Torrez says that the event is not only a great way to feed children when they don't have access to school lunches, but it's also a way to teach them healthy eating habits for life.
"Right now, there's a lot of the young kids who don't know really what nutrition is, so we're trying to teach that," says Torrez.
Parents can find locations, menus and schedules online or with the smartphone app "Feed Your Mind."
