One of the newer businesses in the South Bronx is proving to be more than just fine wine.
Bottle Bronx is located at the intersection of Canal Place and East 138th Street in Mott Haven.
It is a haven for wine aficionados, offering a variety of wines and spirits imported from around the world.
Samuel Thiam and his wife Lenha, both from France, say when they got the opportunity to open their wine business, the Bronx was the obvious choice because of the borough's rich culture.
"When I was growing up in Europe, the Bronx was a place of hip-hop culture. When I was growing up I found out I could bring what I love to this neighborhood. It was a no brainer," says Thiam.
The Thiams say they designed the shop's decor with an open concept for customers.
"No plexiglass. Customers come and enjoy, touch the bottles. That's what we wanted to give," says Thiam.
Bottle Bronx offers wine tasting every Tuesday and Friday, as well as movie screenings.
"We have a love affair with French cinema. Cinema, it really goes well with the wine as well," says Thiam.
Bottle Bronx has been open since May and features wines from France, Spain, Italy, Greece, South Africa, Portugal and local wines.
