Some tenants in East New York say NYCHA is not doing anything to rectify a broken mailbox issue.
Tenants at 725 Stanley Ave. says the issue has been going on for more than a year. At first, they would get their deliveries despite the broken box. Now, they say mail deliveries have stopped.
The tenants, some of whom are in wheelchairs, are forced to take a 20-minute bus ride to get their mail and packages. If that mail isn’t picked up quickly, much of it is returned to sender.
The United States Postal Service told News 12 that they are going to make an exception. While usually it doesn’t hold mail longer than 15 days, they called this an "irregular situation."
They said mail will be stored until the problem is fixed.
NYCHA told News 12 that they will be on site Friday to fix the issue.
