A man was brutally beaten and robbed on the street in University Heights Sunday, leaving a local deli worker wondering why no one came to his rescue.
Basheer Albdi, who was working near the attack, feared the worst when he walked outside.
"I went outside and opened the door. I see the guy on the floor. He looked like he was dead," says Albdi.
Albdi tells News 12 that he immediately called the police and was surprised to learn no one else had.
"Nobody said nothing, everybody walking back and forth, up and down,” says Albdi.
In the surveillance video, two men are having a conversation around 3 a.m. Sunday on West 183rd Street when the suspect starts throwing punches.
After the victim collapses to the ground, the suspect begins to kick him.
Police say the suspect stole the man’s property, including two gold rings. The suspect is seen on the video returning to collect a hat from the scene before walking off.
Authorities say the victim is in a coma.
Police are offering a $2,500 reward for any information that leads to the arrest of the suspect. They are encouraging anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
