Here are some stories making headlines across the Hudson Valley.
Nearly two dozen families are still picking up the pieces after a fire at a Mount Vernon apartment building. Fire officials say the flames broke out at the condo building on Highland Avenue around 3 p.m. Monday and reignited 12 hours later. About 20 families are homeless. Officials are working to determine whether construction work being done on the roof may have caused the blaze.
At least one firefighter is recovering this morning after a blaze in Valley Cottage on Monday. Fire officials say 24-year-old Ryan Ebner had to be hospitalized after suffering burns and smoke inhalation. The flames erupted at a home on Storms Road after 9 p.m. The cause of the fire has not been determined yet.
Funeral services were held Tuesday for long-time choir director who died in a kayaking accident last week. The West Harrison community said their final goodbyes to 45-year-old Laurence Broderick at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Scarsdale. Broderick was the leader of the church choir at St. Anthony's Church for well over a decade. His body was discovered last Tuesday in the Bronx after he went missing in the Long Island Sound.
