Heat has ice warehouse business booming
Bronx residents are flocking to an ice warehouse in Longwood as a heat wave settles in over the borough.
Owners at Big Eddie's Ice House in Longwood say large blocks of ice have been flying off the shelves. They reported having lines stretching down the block at times.
"It's been really busy," says owner Eddie Rosario. "Fourth of July weekend was last weekend, and it was just really hectic. The past couple of days, really, really hectic. And we're just glad we're here to help."
Eddie's offers ice for picnics and barbecues. The warehouse sells bagged ice for coolers, blocks of ice that stand several feet tall and chunks of dry ice. The shop will also cut blocks of ice with a chainsaw to specific sizes for customers.
