The official start of the heat season has begun.

From now until May 31, city law requires that building owners provide adequate heat to all tenants.

According to the law, during the day, temperatures must be 68 degrees inside apartments if it is below 55 degrees outside. If it dips below 40 degrees outside, temperatures inside must be at least 55 degrees.

Officials are asking residents to call 311 and file a complaint if a landlord is not following the rules.
