A hip-hop legend dropped by TapCo School of the Arts Thursday to deliver a positive message to students about how to be successful in life.
D.M.C., of Run-D.M.C., was the special guest during the school's career day. He urged students who may be dealing with issues of depression to seek help.
"When you hold it in, it makes it worse, sending you down a catechism of depression," said the rapper, whose real name is Darryl McDaniels.
Students told News 12 The Bronx that the message hit home.
"He went through a lot and I went through a lot, as well, and he did it with no negativity. Only positivity," said one student.
"I want them to know that their emotions, whether good or bad that they feel, it's OK," said McDaniels.
The guest appearance was part of the Department of Education's College Access for All Initiative.
