Holiday house returns to Pelham Parkway North
A must-see Christmastime attraction is back on Pelham Parkway North for a 43rd year.
Gary Garabedian's home is adorned with all sorts of popular characters such as Superman, Alvin and the Chipmunks and, of course, Santa.
The homeowner says his mother started the tradition in 1973 after something special happened to the family on Christmas Eve 1972, although he would not reveal what happened. When Garabedian's mother died, he and his sister continued the tradition.
Traffic on the road gets backed up as onlooking motorists stop to view the attraction, and some toss money over the fence. Garabedian says that money goes toward the electric bill and to charity.
The home is where Mariah Carey shot her music video for "All I Want For Christmas Is You." It's also the site of many weddings. Garabedian says the most important aspect of the display is the Nativity scene.
