Hundreds of people marched across the Brooklyn Bridge to mark Good Friday, a day of remembrance for Catholics of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
The 23rd annual procession kicked off at the Cathedral Basilica of St. James.
Participants stopped along the way for readings at the Stations of the Cross.
The procession ended at St. Peter's Church in Manhattan.
The meaning is universal for one young marcher.
"In Catholicism, it might be carrying the cross. And any other religion, atheism, it's something else -- but you have to suffer to achieve your goal," he says.
Easter, which marks Jesus's resurrection, is Sunday.
