Hundreds of students face off in Bronx chess competition
Hundreds of students in the Bronx gathered to compete in the annual 'Chess in Schools' tournament Tuesday.
The tournament was held at the Andrew Freedman Home on the Grand Concourse where over 200 students, grades three through eight, from 10 public schools across the Bronx participated.
Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. hosted the event to challenge students to play the strategy game.
Diaz was also at the event and played against students to help provide encouragement and present tournament winners with awards.
Both individual and team champions will be crowned by the end of the tournament.
This is the third year the borough president has hosted the chess tournament.
