Improvements to be made at Intervale Ave. intersection
The city is looking to make the intersection at Intervale Avenue and Dawson Street a bit safer.
Raphael Salamanca Jr., Community Board 2's district manager, says the Department of Transportation has a new plan to change the intersection later this month.
"The first thing that's going to happen is that Dawson Street is going to be converted into a two-way, and the parking lanes are going to be expanded," he says. "Therefore, it's going be one lane going up to Longwood, and one lane coming down to Intervale Avenue."
The centerpiece of the project will be a roundabout with three splitter islands, making it easier for cars to get around.
Pedestrians will also be helped with crosswalks and several pedestrian islands at midpoints of what is now a long and dangerous trek across the streets.
The project is expected to finish later this summer.
