An unusual scene on a quiet street in Allerton has neighbors wondering what caused a car to go up in flames on Pelham Parkway North.

The FDNY says it responded to a car fire in front of 815 Pelham Parkway North around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Video posted to Citizen App around the same time shows bright orange flames torching a parked vehicle. People who live nearby told News 12 they heard a big bang and what sounded like an explosion.

A gold Ford Edge with Pennsylvania license plates was completely charred with blown-out windows and front and back windshields gone.

A Nissan Juke that was parked in front of the car was also impacted. The trunk of the car had visible damage, including the license plate, which appeared to be melted off.

It's unclear whether the fire was caused by a mechanical issue or if any criminality is suspected.
