A Bronx woman's dreams were crushed today when a fire destroyed the Belmont business her family says she worked so hard to create.
Fire officials say they received a call just before 7 a.m. that Mayra's Salon on Washington Avenue was burning to the ground.
The owner's son said his mother used her life-savings to open the salon.
The FDNY says one firefighter was hurt while battling the flames on the first floor of the three-story mixed-use apartment building. He was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries.
The building’s landlord said the owner has been renting space for her salon for several years.
According to the landlord, six families live in the building but none of the tenants were displaced.
The FDNY is now investigating the cause of the fire.
