'It's annoying': Pelham Parkway neighbors want pooper scooper law enforced
Residents in Pelham Parkway say that the pooper scooper law is not being enforced in their neighborhood.
The law forces dog owners to clean up after their pets. The Department of Sanitation tells News 12 in a statement, "Failure to remove canine waste is a very difficult violation for us to issue. We need to see the dog leaving the waste, and witness the owner not cleaning it up. Through the years, we have worked to educate dog owners of their responsibilities."
Neighbors say this hasn't helped the issue. "It's definitely not cute at all. It's annoying," says Emily Arias.
The Department of Sanitation says that in the last calendar year, it issued 166 violations for failure to remove canine waste.
