Jacobi Medical Center is offering a device to patients who are in need of cardiac care.
The LINQ Insertable Cardiac Monitor is a device the size of a AAA battery that is placed just beneath the skin of a patient's chest. It continuously monitors heart activity of those with an irregular heartbeat.
With LINQ, doctors are able to determine a patient's cardiac activity over a longer period of time. If the patient does experience an episode, they can press a button to begin a recording of activity. The results will be transmitted to their doctor.
LINQ is good for up to three years.
The device has been available since October 2014. So far, it has been used on eight patients.
