A judge has rejected the NYCHA deal aimed at settling lawsuits over unhealthy conditions.
This decision comes months after federal officials moved to force NYCHA to pay billions of dollars to settle claims related to issues like falsely reported lead levels in apartment buildings.
The agreement also called for the appointment of a monitor to oversee NYCHA for the next 10 years.
The judge says the deal, as it stands, has "fatal procedural flaws." He's giving the city until Dec. 14 to come up with a new plan.
The Mayor Bill de Blasio’s Press Secretary Eric Phillips released a statement on the ruling, saying in part, “This decision will not affect the record investment Mayor de Blasio has dedicated to reversing decades of divestment and mismanagement of public housing. For the sake of NCYHA's residents, this mayor's reforms, including those outlined in the consent decree, will not stop and will not slow down.
