The Department of Justice says 25 suspected gang members were arrested in connection with a drug ring operating out of the Bronx.
Police say the arrests early Wednesday morning were the result of an 11-month investigation. Twenty-five suspected members and associates of the "Hooly" gang were taken into custody and brought to the NYPD's 43rd Precinct before being transported to federal court.
The DOJ says the gang had its operation set up mostly in the area of Fox Street and Leggett Avenue in the Longwood section of the Bronx. They are believed to have used residential buildings and playgrounds to reportedly traffic heroin, crack and oxycodone. The Drug Enforcement Administration says the Hooly gang was allegedly a feared drug supplier.
In order for the gang and its associates to protect its turf, authorities say they committed various acts of violence that included shootings.
