Neighbors in Crown Heights woke up to the news that four people had been killed in a shooting at a suspected illegal gambling location, and some say that violence in their community is nothing new.
People who live in the area say they want more answers about who was involved in the deadly gun violence and how it unfolded.
Some say that shootings in the area are common, and that they feel it's unsafe for them or family members to walk around the neighborhood.
As News 12 has reported, four men were killed and three other people were wounded when gunfire rang out early Sunday morning at a club on Utica Avenue. Police say dice and cards were found in the location. No arrests have been made.
Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams is urging action to stop gun violence in the wake of the deadly shooting, which comes following a series of shootings in Crown Heights and Brownsville.
In a statement, Adams says in part, "We need new tools to combat the surge in gun violence we are seeing in certain precincts across the city, including the 77th. That's why I've called for the city to double funding for Cure Violence programs."
Adams adds that funding would be directed to areas like Crown Heights and Brownsville.
City Council member Robert Cornegy Jr. also focused on gun violence in his reaction to the shooting, saying, "Gov. Cuomo and New York state have done a lot to prevent and end gun violence, but it is clear there is more work to do at the community level and beyond."
State Attorney General Letitia Games said in a statement, "Once again, senseless gun violence in our communities has claimed the lives of several individuals. The shooting this morning in Crown Heights is deeply upsetting, and we hope that those injured will make full and speedy recoveries."
