A Brooklyn business is using its resources to make a product that's in demand more now than ever – hand sanitizer.

Colin Spoelman is the co-founder and CEO of the Kings County Distillery. He and his team are some of Brooklyn's best-known whiskey makers.

After seeing the spike in COVID-19 cases, they felt compelled to help.

“The core ingredient, the main thing we make is alcohol, so rather than putting it into barrels and putting it into storage to become whiskey – we are now mixing it with hydrogen peroxide and glycerin and putting it in the bottles and offering it as hand sanitizer,” says Spoelman.

They began the process of manufacturing hand sanitizer just two weeks ago and have been making up to 1,000 a day.

The distillery is open to distribute hand sanitizer Tuesday through Saturday, limiting three bottles per person.
