A Kingsbridge deli that has been serving customers for 60 years was honored Saturday with a street renaming.
The community had rallied for nearly a year and a half for Loeser's Deli to be recognized on a street sign on West 231st Street and Godwin Place.
Pam Halpern, one of the owner's four children, has been lobbying to have her father's deli recognized on the sign, saying she felt it was important so that no matter what happens to the deli in the next 60 years it would live forever in the community.
The community board voted down the petition but the City Council unanimously approved the new street sign in December. Pam says she's thrilled her persistence has paid off, and that her father's hard work will be honored forever.
The corner now shares a name with Loeser's Deli Place, and Sept. 28 now marks Loeser's Deli Day proclaimed by Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.
