A sinkhole on a beach in Monmouth County has once again become a hazard, and officials are hoping to find a permanent solution.
The large sinkhole is on a beach on the Asbury Park/Ocean Grove border, near the old casino.
Asbury Park officials say an outflow pipe near the sinkhole is to blame. It’s been repaired a few times over the years, but continued leakage leads to the sinkhole coming back. For now, it’s been fenced off.
“A big concern, you know. I walk the beach every day,” says Lisa Ranno, of Asbury Park. “So, I mean you just got to be careful.”
News 12 is told the Army Corps of Engineers is being called in to hopefully make the permanent repairs to the pipe that will prevent leaks and the sinkhole from returning again.
