The Broadway corridor along Van Cortlandt Park may soon receive new traffic signals, local politicians announced Tuesday.

State Sen. Jeff Klein and Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz said the city's Department of Transportation has agreed to their request to install lights between 242nd Street and West 251st Street.

One will be placed at the entrance of the Van Cortlandt Park House Museum and Nature Center. Another will go across the park entrance near 6087 Broadway, just south of West 251st Street.

Lawmakers said the area has been extremely dangerous and the signals will improve safety. They asked the DOT for action after community members presented a petition with more than 600 signatures on the issue.

The DOT did not immediately respond to a News 12 request for comment.
